Going for Gold (or any type of metal!) in Co Sligo.

It’s a wrap and TidyTowns groups across County Sligo are Going for Gold (or even silver or bronze medals) in the 2021 National TidyTowns Competition.

We have now completed the training for Tidy Towns groups across the county.  Six separate sessions were delivered to cover training needs identified by the County Sligo PPN.  On some nights we had up to 40 attendees - well above our planned targets - and the numbers kept high throughout the entirety of the training programme.

Woodrow ecology staff facilitated alongside National TidyTowns competition adjudicators.  The interactive sessions brought attendees on a tour of the wildllife and habitats of the county.  We discussed pollinator-friendly planting ideas for specific sites.  Back to Basics in waste management was explored aongside the Circular Economy.  We considered and debated how the great work of TT volunteers helps Ireland contribute towards the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.  Sharon talked about using past Facebook and social media posts to highlight the work of TidyTowns in their entry forms as part of what an adjudicator looks for in their entry form.

Handouts were provided after every session and all six sessions were recorded and are available on the PPN’s website:
