It’s a hat trick for world-class environmental and geospatial consultancy the APEM Group. Today the APEM Group announced their third acquisition in less than a year, with the arrival of GoBe Consultants.

It’s been quite the ‘season’ for APEM as they fortify their team further with the acquisition of Devon and Glasgow based consultancy, GoBe. This follows Woodrow joining the Group last July and then AQUAFACT earlier this year.

Since establishing itself in 2009, GoBe has built a reputation as an innovative and market-leading planning and environmental services consultancy. Owned by university friends, Tim Golding and Steve Bellew, the consultancy was born as a direct response to the growing environmental needs of the renewables industry.

Working closely with developers, GoBe provides informed and accurate advice and technical tasks, sharing their in-depth knowledge, and understanding of the consenting process for nationally significant infrastructure projects (NSIPs) and offshore wind developments.

The future of the renewables industry, especially offshore wind, is bright and the demand for strategic solutions and project-specific experts to support planning and environmental plans are high. Dr Adrian Williams, the APEM Group’s CEO comments:

“We’ve worked with Steve, Tim and the rest of the team at GoBe for several years now so I’ve known for a while that together we’d be the ‘Dream Team’. I’m super excited by this move and believe that the coming together of two such highly respected organisations will provide an offering that is truly unique in the market.”

APEM and GoBe have collaborated for many years, so the move is a meeting of minds and skills in its purest form.

A driving factor in the decision-making process for Tim and Steve was access to the Group’s large, international team. With 14 locations throughout the UK, Ireland, US, Australia and Germany, GoBe’s desire to be able to deliver even more high quality strategic and project-specific planning and environmental advice will be achieved.

“Having worked closely with APEM for many years, it was clear that joining forces presented a unique opportunity for us to continue the growth required to meet the needs of the offshore wind industry globally, working with developers to meet the demands of a low carbon future. Being part of the APEM Group is an exciting prospect and we look forward to building on and developing the business as we move forward together.”

In 2019 a management buyout was aided by the support of WestBridge. Peter Barkley, Director said:

“GoBe has an excellent reputation and the services it provides are a perfect addition to the world class service offering of the APEM Group. The combination of GoBe and APEM positions the Group as a leading provider to the offshore wind market globally.
It goes without saying, we are delighted to have supported this latest transaction and look forward to welcoming the GoBe team to the APEM Group.”

APEM began life as a small niche consultancy in 1987. Over three decades, it has grown into a global environmental consultancy, providing a comprehensive range of integrated niche services for clients across Europe, the US, Australia and Asia.
Now employing over 420 staff across the globe, the Group are specialists in marine, freshwater, terrestrial ecology and geospatial services.
