Damien is a Bat Ecologist with Woodrow, part of APEM Group, originally from County Mayo and raised in a small village on the northwest coast near Belmullet. He holds a BSc in Environmental Science from IT Sligo (now ATU), graduating in 2020. Since then, he has built a diverse career spanning data analytics and four years in ecological consultancy, working as an Ecologist in both Limerick and Mayo before returning to Sligo to specialise in bat ecology.
Damien has extensive field experience, including emergence and re-entry surveys, activity transect surveys, deployment of static bat detectors, bat call analysis, and the preparation of high-quality ecological reports.
He is an active volunteer with Bat Conservation Ireland (BCI), contributing to the All-Ireland Daubenton’s Bat Waterways Survey and serving as a member of The Bat Panel, where he delivers informative walks and talks to the public and helps raise awareness of bat conservation and their ecological importance.
Outside of work, Damien endures the lifelong challenges of supporting both Mayo GAA and Manchester United.
