Sammy joined Woodrow as an Ecology Support and Data Coordinator in 2024 after finishing his degree in Environmental Science at the University of Galway.
At the University of Galway Sammy gained a range of ecological skills including habitat classification and mapping, invertebrate survey methods and, most notably, bird survey techniques, using novel UAV-based surveys to monitor wintering waterbirds on turloughs during his final year.
While working as a Marine Mammal Research Assistant in west Cork Sammy monitored whales, dolphins and other megafauna with ORCA Ireland identifying individual mammals across years and analyzing the marine soundscape of the wild Atlantic.
Outside of work, Sammy likes to identify interesting plants, play guitar, and practice Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
